Labs and Workshops
Two-unit video, photo, and audio production labs are offered in specific Social Sciences classes that use media production as a component of their coursework.
Video
In our two unit video labs, we start at the beginning and take you through all the steps necessary to enable you to produce a documentary video including: pre-production planning, camera operation, composition, sound, interview techniques, editing theory, editing, and post production techniques. Video labs must be taken concurrently with the affiliated course.
Photo
The Photo Documentary Lab starts with basic camera operation, and goes on to include photographic aesthetics, photo documentary theory, lighting, and developing and printing of black and white photographs. Labs also include instruction in toning and hand coloring. Students supply their own film and photo paper. Photo labs must be taken concurrently with the affiliated course.
Audio
This lab is designed to train students in the fundamental techniques of documentary audio production. Through lectures, documentary examples, demonstrations, hands-on instruction, and consultation with students regarding their work in progress, students will gain the skills they need to produce their own audio documentaries. Audio labs must be taken concurrently with the affiliated course.
Email or telephone the Media Lab for additional information: lab schedule, hours, workshops, etc.
