Title:                                 Dynamic Air Quality Management

Program:                         The U.S. EPA, as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is seeking applications proposing research to lay the scientific foundation for improving the air quality management system. Applications may address increasing the rate at which new information is incorporated into regional and local air quality management or improving management of short-term air pollution episodes.

Title:                                 NIJ Visiting Fellows Program

Program:                         NIJ seeks proposals for important research work and scholarship as part of the 2011 NIJ Visiting Fellows Program. Awards made under the NIJ Visiting Fellows Program will bring leading researchers and others into residency at NIJ to make important scholarly contributions in their chosen fields of criminology or criminal justice research and to work with the NIJ Director and staff to help shape the direction of NIJ’s research programs. NIJ will recruit Research Fellows, who have worked mainly in academic or other research settings, and Policy Fellows, who have worked mainly in a criminal justice policy or practice setting. NIJ will also recruit Partnership Fellows—a Research Fellow and a Policy Fellow who will work together on a joint research project. During their Fellowship at NIJ, Visiting Fellows will work on a significant piece of scholarship that has the potential to significantly advance criminology or criminal justice research, such as a major “capstone” effort culminating a line of research or some work in a new area that has significant potential to transform our understanding of crime and justice.

Title:                                 Education Technology

Program:                         Through its Education Technology research grants program, the institute intends to support research on education technology tools that are designed to provide or support instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, or science (including pre-reading, pre-writing, early mathematics, and early science) or to provide professional development for teachers related to instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, or science.

The institute intends to contribute to improvement of reading, writing, mathematics, and science learning by

- developing innovative education technology tools intended to improve reading, writing, mathematics, science, or general study skills;

- evaluating fully developed education technology tools intended to improve reading, writing, mathematics, science, or general study skills through efficacy or replication trials;

- evaluating the effectiveness of fully developed education technology tools intended to improve reading, writing, mathematics, science, or general study skills that are implemented at scale; and

- developing and/or validating assessments that use education technology and that can be used in instructional settings.

Title:                                 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards for Individual Predoctoral Fellows (F31)

Program:                         The purpose of the predoctoral fellowship (F31) award is to provide support for promising doctoral candidates who will be performing dissertation research and training in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes during the tenure of the award. The Kirschstein-NRSA for Individual Predoctoral Fellows will provide up to five years of support for research training which leads to the PhD or equivalent research degree, the combined MD/PhD degree, or another formally combined professional degree and research doctoral degree in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences.

Title:                                 UC Discovery Grant (Seed funding, Discovery Research and Training Grants, Proof of Concept)

Program:                         The UC Discovery Grant (UCDG) promotes collaborations between UC researchers and industry partners in the interest of supporting cutting-edge research, strengthening the state's economy, and serving the public good. UCDG research projects are jointly funded by a UC Discovery Grant and an industry sponsor matching contribution, forging partnerships to advance the following goals & priorities.

UCDG solicits research proposals involving pioneering studies that are of potential significant benefit to the California economy. Proposed research should demonstrate significant potential for research discoveries and the rapid commercialization of related technological advancements, as well as significant benefit to California and its economy. Benefit to California and its economy include:

• Accelerating innovation in California and creating the foundation for new technologies and products

• Growing California’s skilled workforce and creating the foundation for new California jobs

• Increasing competitiveness of California companies, particularly to attract greater investments and retain jobs in California

• Establishing the foundation for creating new California companies;

• Identifying new solutions to critical California problems.
