Program:                 This Funding Opportunity Announcement encourages Small Research Grant (R03) applications to study the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of human genome research. These applications should be for small, self-contained research projects. Of particular interest are projects that propose focused legal, economic, philosophical or historical analyses of new or emerging issues.

Title:                        Educational Programs for Demography and Population Science, Family Planning and Contraception, and Reproductive Research (R25)
Program:                  This Funding Opportunity Announcement, issued by the NICHD, National Institutes of Health, encourages Research Education Project (R25) grant applications for educational activities related to Demography and Population Science, Family Planning and Contraception, and Reproductive Research. NICHD encourages applications for educational programs for interdisciplinary training; methodological training; and training in the use and dissemination and use of existing datasets. The purpose of this FOA is to support educational programs that focus on  interdisciplinary approaches; methodology; and the dissemination and use of existing datasets in order to advance research in Demography and Population Science, Family Planning and Contraception, and Reproductive Research.  The Demographic and Behavioral Sciences Branch (DBSB) is particularly interested in applications that address one or more of the components of the DBSB scientific mission:
1. Research in demography, the scientific study of human populations, including their size, composition, distribution, density, and growth and decline, as well as the causes and consequences of changes in these factors. Major areas of focus include fertility, mortality and morbidity, migration, nuptiality, and family demography.
2. Behavioral and social science research on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive health.
3. Research on other scientific areas related to the health and well-being of populations that applies the methods and perspectives of demography and social science, including the use of population representative samples and methods that address causal inference, such as selectivity, and endogeneity.

Title:                        Regional Agriculture IPM Grants
Program:                  EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), in coordination with the EPA Regional Offices, announces the availability of approximately $500,000 for assistance agreements to further, through research, development, monitoring, public education, training, demonstrations, or studies, the adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches to reduce pesticide risk in production agriculture settings in the United States. IPM is a sustainable approach to managing pests by combining biological, cultural, physical, and chemical tools in a way that minimizes economic, health, and environmental risks.

Title:                        Research on the role of universities in small business innovation
Program:                  The research shall consist of defining and finding the level of total small business innovation and innovation derived from university spillovers. The proposal shall show a competence to carry out a stated methodology/model and indicate what data will be used along with showing knowledge of the data. The proposal shall present a project that advances our understanidn of the topic while deomonstrating an understanding of how the proposed research will build upon existing research and therefore be groundbreaking. Proposals that illustrate best practices from University/small business partnerships will be given special consideration.

Title:                        Working Groups on the Humanities and Changing Conceptions of Work
Program:                  Globalization has profoundly impacted not just what work is available but how and where we work, what we think of as work, and what skills the humanities and interpretative social sciences must teach to prepare students for work. This three-year multicampus research initiative seeks to comprehend and illuminate the changing conceptions and experience of work in the face of recent global economic, technological, and social developments, and to address the implications for the Humanities. It will explore also how humanities practitioners can prepare students for the work that awaits them in 21st-century global society.The working groups, seminars, and other research projects of this three-year initiative will take place on campuses across the University of California, drawing on and promoting the networking and research strengths of faculty and graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences across the system.

Title:                        CCK Scholar Grants
Program:                  Chiang Ching-kuo (CCK) Scholar Grants will be given to help replace half of the salary of faculty on sabbatical, or for time off for research and writing. Applications should be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the chairman of the department, from the dean of the college or the provost of the university. The foundation's grants provide support for research on Chinese Studies in the humanities and social sciences.
