Title:                            Transforming Undergraduate Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (TUES)
Program:                     The TUES program seeks to improve the quality of STEM education for all undergraduate students. This solicitation especially encourages projects that have the potential to transform undergraduate STEM education, for example, by bringing about widespread adoption of classroom practices that embody understanding of how students learn most effectively. Thus transferability and dissemination are critical aspects for projects developing instructional materials and methods and should be considered throughout the project's lifetime. More advanced projects should involve efforts to facilitate adaptation at other sites.
The program supports efforts to create, adapt, and disseminate new learning materials and teaching strategies to reflect advances both in STEM disciplines and in what is known about teaching and learning. It funds projects that develop faculty expertise, implement educational innovations, assess learning and evaluate innovations, prepare K-12 teachers, or conduct research on STEM teaching and learning. It also supports projects that further the work of the program itself, for example, synthesis and dissemination of findings across the program. The program supports projects representing different stages of development, ranging from small, exploratory investigations to large, comprehensive projects.

Title:                            Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grants (T32)
Program:                     The NIH will award Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSAs Institutional Research Training Grants (T32) to eligible institutions as the primary means of supporting predoctoral and postdoctoral research training to help ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles related to the Nations biomedical, behavioral and clinical research agenda. The objective of the T32 program is to prepare qualified individuals for careers that have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the Nation. This program supports predoctoral and postdoctoral research training programs (including those with short term research training) at domestic institutions of higher education with the T32 funding mechanism. Note that programs solely for short-term research training should not apply to this announcement, but rather the separate (T35) NRSA Short-Term Institutional program exclusively reserved for predoctoral and/or postdoctoral level short-term research training programs (see PA-11-185).

Title:                            Social Science Research on Indigent Defense
Program:                     NIJ seeks proposals for funding to examine indigent criminal defense services, policies, and practices. This includes services provided by any of the following: State-funded, county-funded, city-funded, or tribal public defender’s offices; contract indigent defense lawyers; court-appointed counsel for indigent defendants; and/or, pro bono services provided by criminal defense attorneys. These services can be at the pretrial, trial, post-conviction, and/or appellate stages and involve either juvenile and/or adult defendants. Applicants are encouraged to consider research involving either (1) access to counsel and waiver of counsel by juveniles and/or adults, or (2) the effectiveness of other defense team members in indigent defense cases. However, other strong research proposals will be considered as well.

Title:                            Fellowships
Program:                     Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources in the humanities. Projects may be at any stage of development. NEH encourages submission of Fellowships applications from faculty at Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Tribal Colleges and Universities.

Title:                            Social Science Weather Research
Program:                     This research funding opportunity is being jointly issued by the U.S. Weather Research Program in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Office and Weather and Air Quality (OWAQ) in NOAA Research and the National Weather Service (NWS). It seeks to stimulate research and develop collaborations between social and physical scientists that can help build a Weather Ready Nation. (See http://www.nws.noaa.gov/com/weatherreadynation/ for more information about NOAA's Weather Ready Nation activities.) This research will help to better understand human behavior and positively affect decision-making during weather-related events and the formulation and communication of forecast uncertainty, or forecast confidence. The results of this research are expected to improve the communication within the weather community and to the public to invoke a response that will help protect life and property during dangerous weather events.

Title:                            International Collaborative Research Grant (ICRG)
Program:                     ICRG supports international research collaborations between two or more qualified scholars, where the principal investigators bring different and complementary perspectives, knowledge, and/or skills to the project. Supplemental funds are also available to provide essential training for academic research participants in ICRG-funded projects (co-applicants, students, as well as other professional colleagues). By encouraging international collaborations, the grant contributes to the development of an international anthropology that values and incorporates different national perspectives and resources. By providing training funds, the grant helps to build capacity in countries were anthropology may be under-resourced. The grants are for a maximum of $30,000 for the research project. Proposals which include the optional training element can have an increased funding request up to a maximum of $35,000, of which no more than $10,000 can be for essential training purposes. Under special circumstances grants can be renewed to support longer-term research projects. Principal Investigators must hold a doctorate or equivalent in anthropology or a related discipline.
