Title:                            Cyberlearning: Transforming Education-Capacity Building Projects
Program:                     Through the Cyberlearning: Transforming Education program, NSF seeks to integrate advances in technology with advances in what is known about how people learn to
*better understand how people learn with technology and how technology can be used productively to help people learn, through individual use and/or through collaborations mediated by technology;
*better use technology for collecting, analyzing, sharing, and managing data to shed light on learning, promoting learning, and designing learning environments; and
*design new technologies for these purposes, and advance understanding of how to use those technologies and integrate them into learning environments so that their potential is fulfilled.
Of particular interest are technological advances that allow more personalized learning experiences, draw in and promote learning among those in populations not served well by current educational practices, allow access to learning resources anytime and anywhere, and provide new ways of assessing capabilities. It is expected that Cyberlearning research will shed light on how technology can enable new forms of educational practice and that broad implementation of its findings will result in a more actively-engaged and productive citizenry and workforce.

Title:                            Advanced Technological Education (ATE)
Program:                     With an emphasis on two-year colleges, the ATE program focuses on the education of technicians for the high-technology fields that drive our nation's economy. The program involves partnerships between academic institutions and employers to promote improvement in the education of science and engineering technicians at the undergraduate and secondary school levels. The ATE program supports curriculum development; professional development of college faculty and secondary school teachers; career pathways to two-year colleges from secondary schools and from two-year colleges to four-year institutions; and other activities. Another goal is articulation between two-year and four-year programs for K-12 prospective teachers that focus on technological education. The program also invites proposals focusing on research to advance the knowledge base related to technician education.

Title:                            Getty Scholar Grants
Program:                     Getty Scholar grants are for established scholars, artists, or writers who have attained distinction in their fields. Recipients are in residence at the Getty Research Institute, where they pursue their own projects free from academic obligations, make use of Getty collections, join their colleagues in a weekly meeting devoted to an annual theme, and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty.

Title:                            Healthy Kids
Program:                     Children need nutrition, stimulation, healthy living conditions and access to quality health care to thrive. We help many of them receive all four by funding organizations that improve birth outcomes, first food experiences and health services; create access to healthy foods; and educate families and communities about the interrelated factors that determine well-being. We are especially interested in efforts focusing on children who are disadvantaged by multiple societal factors, a disproportionate percentage of whom are children of color. We also support innovative, place-based efforts to address the social determinants of health (SDoH) through local leadership, policy and advocacy. And we work to ensure access to a quality health environment and to quality health care.

Title:                            Assessing Local Agency Bond Default Probabilities
Program:                     The research will support the development of a dataset of key financial indicators. These will include, at a minimum, quantitative data drawn from financial reports, audits, budgets, and projections. By its nature this dataset will be time limited. In order to test the hypothesis using historical data, the project must align data available through the State Controller’s Office (SCO) annual financial reports of a local agency to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR) issued by that agency. To do so, the project should produce calculations -- a translation matrix – cross referencing the SCO data to CAFR data. Because this interoperability will allow researchers to apply the model to historical data available in the SCO reports that is not readily available in the CAFR, it will enable a test of hypothesis using historical data.

To be effective, the database must employ a front-end design that allows a user to modify the values contained in the model to calculate an issuer’s default and determine the impact of those changes on the issuers default probability.
