Title:                            Social Psychology
Program:                     The Social Psychology Program at NSF supports basic research on human social behavior, including cultural differences and development over the life span. Among the many research topics supported are: attitude formation and change, social cognition, personality processes, interpersonal relations and group processes, the self, emotion, social comparison and social influence, and the psychophysiological and neurophysiological bases of social behavior. The scientific merit of a proposal depends on four important factors: (1) The problems investigated must be theoretically grounded. (2) The research should be based on empirical observation or be subject to empirical validation. (3) The research design must be appropriate to the questions asked. (4) The proposed research must advance basic understanding of social behavior.
Deadline:                    July 15, 2013

Foundations

Funding Source:         Volkswagen Foundation
Title:                            Key Issues for Research and Society
Program:                     With this funding initiative the VolkswagenStiftung focuses on complex research questions which have the quality, significance and relevance of a "key issue for research and society". Increasingly, a successful analysis of such topics beyond conventional settings requires – as in cultural studies and social sciences – a close cooperation between several researchers with different expertise. However, the VolkswagenStiftung does not define the key topics. On the contrary, the call is for the resourcefulness and creativity of the scholars to track down corresponding problem areas and questions and to demonstrate the relevance and significance of a "key issue" in a comparative peer review process. A requirement for applying is that the project is primarily located in the humanities, cultural studies, or social sciences.
Deadline:                    Pre-proposals:            November 15, 2013

Title:                            Research Clusters
Program:                     This program is designed to encourage and support research in any area of the Humanities. In addition to programming (e.g., conferences, workshops, seminars, visiting scholars), we encourage the clusters to view this as seed funding and to think about ways the cluster can serve as an incubator for larger projects in the future (e.g., websites and other digital projects, edited volumes, the establishment of research centers, NEH Summer Seminars, UC multi-campus research groups etc.) and how they can leverage cluster funds to secure extramural funding. Preference will be given to clusters that have not already received multiple years of funding, though all proposals will be considered.
