Title: Developmental and Learning Sciences (DLS)
Program: DLS supports fundamental research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes related to children's and adolescents' development and learning. Research supported by this program will add to our basic knowledge of how people learn and the underlying developmental processes that support learning, with the objective of leading to better educated children and adolescents who grow up to take productive roles as workers and as citizens.
Among the many research topics supported by DLS are: developmental cognitive neuroscience; development of higher-order cognitive processes; transfer of knowledge from one domain or situation to another; use of molecular genetics to study continuities and discontinuities in development; development of peer relations and family interactions; multiple influences on development, including the impact of family, school, community, social institutions, and the media; adolescents’ preparation for entry into the workforce; cross-cultural research on development and learning; and the role of cultural influences and demographic characteristics on development. Additional priorities include research that: incorporates multidisciplinary, multi-method, microgenetic, and longitudinal approaches; develops new methods, models, and theories for studying learning and development; and integrates different processes (e.g., learning, memory, emotion), levels of analysis (e.g., behavioral, social, neural), and time scales (e.g. infancy, middle childhood, adolescence).

Title: Science of Science and Innovation Policy (SciSIP)
Program: The SciSIP program supports research designed to advance the scientific basis of science and innovation policy. Research funded by the program thus develops, improves and expands models, analytical tools, data and metrics that can be applied in the science policy decision making process. For example, research proposals may develop behavioral and analytical conceptualizations, frameworks or models that have applications across a broad array of SciSIP challenges, including the relationship between broader participation and innovation or creativity. Proposals may also develop methodologies to analyze science and technology data, and to convey the information to a variety of audiences. Researchers are also encouraged to create or improve science and engineering data, metrics and indicators reflecting current discovery, particularly proposals that demonstrate the viability of collecting and analyzing data on knowledge generation and innovation in organizations. Among the many research topics supported are:
examinations of the ways in which the contexts, structures and processes of science and engineering research are affected by policy decision,
the evaluation of the tangible and intangible returns from investments in science and from investments in research and development,
the study of structures and processes that facilitate the development of usable knowledge, theories of creative processes and their transformation into social and economic outcomes,
the collection, analysis and visualization of new data describing the scientific and engineering enterprise.
The SciSIP program invites the participation of researchers from all of the social, behavioral and economic sciences as well as those working in domain-specific applications such as chemistry, biology, physics, or nanotechnology. The program welcomes proposals for individual or multi-investigator research projects, doctoral dissertation improvement awards, conferences, workshops, symposia, experimental research, data collection and dissemination, computer equipment and other instrumentation, and research experience for undergraduates. The program places a high priority on interdisciplinary research as well as international collaboration.

Title: Publication Subsidies
Program: Academic publishers may apply for subsidies for the publication of scholarly works related to the goals of the Foundation. The publication may be in the form of a book or a monograph. Applications will be accepted for completed book manuscripts, but not for books in a series. Priority will be given to first book projects by junior scholars. For periodicals and journals, the Foundation will support one year's worth of publication. The application for the publication of conference proceedings requires a completed, edited draft. The Foundation's grants provide support for research on Chinese studies in the humanities and social sciences.

Program: The East Asia Institute (EAI) based in Seoul, Korea, invites applications to its Fellows Program on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia. The program targets East Asia specialists with cutting-edge expertise in political science, international relations, and sociology for an international exchange program with the goal of encouraging interdisciplinary research with a comparative perspective in the study of East Asia.

Title: Andrew W. Mellon New Directions Fellowship
Program: The University of California, Santa Cruz has been invited to nominate one candidate for the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation's New Directions Fellowship. This is an invitation-only submission process. It is a very prestigious award that covers salary for approximately one academic year and two summers of additional support (including release time from teaching, if required). Candidates for this program should be highly qualified scholars pursuing innovative research. New Directions Fellowship assist faculty members in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who received their doctorate between six and twelve years ago and who wish to acquire systematic training outside their own disciplines. The fellowships are looking to assist faculty whose research interests cross-disciplinary boundaries and call for formal training in a discipline other than the one in which they are expert. The nominee will be decided by a committee of Social Science and Humanities faculty members.
