Endowments

Complete list of current UC Santa Cruz Division of Social Sciences endowments

Endowments that have been created within the Division of Social Sciences provide permanent funding to support faculty chairs and student scholarships, fellowships, and named awards within the division’s disciplines. In the case of memorial endowments, which often reflect the interests of an endowment’s namesake, these endowments nurture the campus’s educational future while perpetuating the memory of the individuals honored.

With a focus on the study of human relationships and the functioning of society, the Division of Social Sciences is an outstanding example of the effectiveness of the interdisciplinary approach at UC Santa Cruz. The division seeks to understand large issues that affect the quality of life and future prospects of all inhabitants of our planet. Students and faculty within the Division of Social Sciences, concerned with how innovation and experimentation can be used to comprehend global economic, environmental, societal, and political changes, work together to forge creative new approaches to research and learning. Emerging from these ventures is a wealth of new solutions to contemporary society’s most pressing issues.

Because of the breadth of UC Santa Cruz's scholarship and research, endowments are needed in all subject areas. You can augment an existing endowment, join with others to start a new endowment, or establish a commemorative endowment to memorialize a loved one or special event. Your generous participation in funding the division’s endowments greatly enhances efforts within the Social Sciences Division to find ways to a more just and peaceful society.

The minimum required to establish a new endowed named award is $10,000. The minimum for endowed scholarships is $50,000, and for graduate fellowships it is $200,000. Arrangements may be made to pay gift pledges over time (up to five years) or through a planned gift. Gifts to endowed funds are subject to a UCSC administrative fee of 3%.
