Mónica Enríquez


Mónica Enríquez I am a 26 year old queer Latina, originally from Colombia. I am a first year M.F.A candidate in the Digital Arts and New Media Program at UCSC. I graduated from San Francisco State University on August 2005 with a B.A. in International Relations and an emphasis on Women’s Studies. I am now focusing on a project dealing with asylum in the U.S. granted on the basis of persecution due to sexuality and sexual orientation. I am a video-maker and interested in searching solidarity and building community through art and activism. The Lionel Cantu Award will enable me to focus this summer in the production of my thesis project in particular it will help fund the interviews with asylum seekers and people who have been granted asylum which will be the backbone of my final project to be exhibited in the final projects June 2008 M.F.A. exhibit from the Digital Arts and New Media Program.
