Distinguished Professor Craig Haney, 2015
Dear Social Sciences Faculty and Staff,

I am thrilled to announce that Distinguished Professor Craig Haney in the Department of Psychology has been appointed by Chancellor George Blumenthal as a UCSC Presidential Chair for a three-year period beginning July 1, 2015. (Professor Susan Strome in Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology also was appointed as a UCSC Presidential Chair.)

Presidential Chairs are awarded to highly accomplished members of the University's faculty and are intended to facilitate new or interdisciplinary program development or to improve the quality of existing academic programs in the University. Distinguished Professor Haney's appointment is intended to support his efforts to create an intellectual home for the core faculty at UCSC working in the area of criminal justice issues and reform, as well as to establish a partnership between researchers and policymakers to address reforms to the nation's criminal justice system.

Please join me in congratulating Distinguished Professor Haney for receiving this prestigious award.

Sincerely,
Sheldon Kamieniecki
Dean, Social Sciences
