Title:                                Special Research Grants: Pest Management Alternatives
Program:                         The purpose of Pest Management Alternatives Program (PMAP) is to provide support for the development and implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) practices, tactics, and systems for specific pest problems while reducing human and environmental risks. This purpose addresses the broad goals outlined in the "National Roadmap for Integrated Pest Management," developed by federal and non-federal IPM experts, practitioners, and stakeholders in 2004. The successful management of pest problems in commercial production is facing severe challenges due to regulatory changes, emergence of new pest problems, and the development of pest resistance to present management technologies. The greatest impact on current management technologies is in the production of specialty crops; however, other crops, including grain, forage and fiber, as well as animal health, are also being impacted by these changes.

Title:                                Research Concept Solicitation
Program:                         ARB is soliciting research suggestions in the form of brief conceptual descriptions that address the research gaps described in this announcement and support the Board's ongoing regulatory and policy priorities. Established by the State Legislature in 1971, the Air Resources Board’s (ARB’s) program of research probes causes, effects, and solutions to California’s air pollution problems. This research provides a scientific basis for development of regulations, voluntary programs, and outreach efforts; for Board decision-making; and for implementation of initiatives to protect the health of California’s people and environment from the effects of air pollution.

For an overview of the Board's research program, please see ARB’s Research Activities website. Information regarding the Board’s program areas is also available online.

Contributions should address the policy-relevant knowledge gaps that are critical to ARB’s mission, as described at the web pages below. To the extent that they support the Board’s responsibilities, research ideas outside of indicated research interests will also be considered.  The general areas of research interest are:
Health and Exposure
Emissions, Transport, and Transformation
Climate Change and Energy Conservation
Economic Impacts and Analysis
