Title: Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST)
Program: The ITEST program responds to current concerns and projections about the growing demand for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals in the U.S. and seeks solutions to help ensure the breadth and depth of the STEM workforce. ITEST supports the development, implementation, testing, and scale-up of implementation models. It also supports research studies to address questions that point to solutions for building a strong, competent STEM workforce. A variety of possible approaches to supporting the future STEM workforce and to building students' capacity to participate in that important workforce may be implemented and studied. ITEST projects must include students and may include teachers. The target audience is kindergarten through high school age, and projects may focus on any content area related to the STEM workforce. Projects that explore the impact of robotics competitions are of special interest; specifically, ITEST is placing emphasis on proposals to design and implement robotics competitions, and to study their effectiveness as a means of engaging students in learning STEM content and 21st Century skills.
The ITEST program is interested in addressing such questions as: What does it take to effectively interest and prepare students to participate in the STEM workforce of the future? How do students acquire the knowledge, skills, and dispositions they need in order to participate productively in the changing STEM workforce? How can we assess and predict students' inclination to participate in the STEM fields, and how can we measure the impact of various models that encourage that participation.

Title: Research Initiation Grants in Engineering Education (RIGEE)
Program: Engineering faculty possess both deep technical expertise in their engineering discipline and the primary responsibility for educating future engineers. As such, engineering faculty are in a unique position to help address critical challenges in engineering education. The RIGEE program enables engineering faculty who are renowned for teaching, mentoring, or leading educational reform efforts on their campus to initiate collaborations with colleagues in the learning and cognitive sciences to address difficult, boundary-spanning problems in how we educate engineers.

Title: Research on Violence and Victimization Across the Life-Span
Program: NIJ is seeking applications for funding to support research and evaluation of violence and victimization, including basic research on violence across the life-span, special topics in violence and victimization, and elder mistreatment. Title: Digital Humanities Start Up Grants
Program: The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) invites applications to the Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants program. This program is designed to encourage innovations in the digital humanities. By awarding relatively small grants to support the planning stages, NEH aims to encourage the development of innovative projects that promise to benefit the humanities.
Proposals should be for the planning or initial stages of digital initiatives in any area of the humanities. Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants may involve:
research that brings new approaches or documents best practices in the study of the digital humanities;
planning and developing prototypes of new digital tools for preserving, analyzing, and making accessible digital resources, including libraries’ and museums’ digital assets;
scholarship or studies that examine the philosophical or practical implications and impact of the use of emerging technologies in specific fields or disciplines of the humanities, or in interdisciplinary collaborations involving several fields or disciplines;
innovative uses of technology for public programming and education utilizing both traditional and new media; and
new digital modes of publication that facilitate the dissemination of humanities scholarship in advanced academic as well as informal or formal educational settings at all academic levels.

Title: Next Generation Learning Challenges Wave 2: Building Blocks for College Readiness
Program: Next Generation Learning Challenges is a collaborative, multi-year initiative created to address the barriers to educational innovation and tap the potential of technology to dramatically improve college readiness and completion in the United States. NGLC is guided by the belief that providing investment capital to expand the use of proven and emerging learning technologies, collecting and sharing evidence of what works, and fostering a community of innovators and adopters will result in a robust pool of solutions and greater institutional adoption which, in turn, will dramatically improve the quality of learning experiences in the United States. Many potentially breakthrough solutions are being developed and tested by educators, institutions, technologists, and entrepreneurs, but too often they operate with little access to each other or to opportunities to disseminate their innovations. Support is needed to refine and rigorously test their solutions, to connect with other like-minded innovators, and to develop strategies to broaden their reach and impact.

Program: Seed funds are available to support beginning projects in the areas listed above; travel to develop collaborations or to present the results of UC MEXUS-supported research projects; visiting scholars from Mexican institutions; lectures and performances; public service programs; and other short-term needs for the initial development of projects. Requests are encouraged for funds to match awards from campus sources.
