Program:                     The Cognitive Neuroscience Program seeks highly innovative and interdisciplinary proposals aimed at advancing a rigorous understanding of how the human brain supports thought, perception, affect, action, social processes, and other aspects of cognition and behavior, including how such processes develop and change in the brain and through time.

Title                             Promoting Research and Innovation in Methodologies for Evaluation (PRIME)
Program:                     The PRIME program seeks to support research on evaluation with special emphasis on exploring innovative approaches for determining the impacts and usefulness of STEM education projects and programs; building on and expanding the theoretical foundations for evaluating STEM education and workforce development initiatives, including translating and adapting approaches from other fields; and growing the capacity and infrastructure of the evaluation field. Two types of proposals will be supported by the program: Exploratory Projects that include proof-of-concept and feasibility studies and more extensive Full-Scale Projects.

Title:                            Interdisciplinary Behavioral and Social Science Research (IBSS)
Program:                     The IBSS competition promotes the conduct of interdisciplinary research by teams of investigators in the social and behavioral sciences. Emphasis is placed on support for research that involves researchers from multiple disciplinary fields, that integrates scientific theoretical approaches and methodologies from multiple disciplinary fields, and that is likely to yield generalizable insights and information that will advance basic knowledge and capabilities across multiple disciplinary fields.

Title:                            Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program (STEP)
Program:                     The STEP program seeks to increase the number of students (U.S. citizens or permanent residents) receiving associate or baccalaureate degrees in established or emerging fields within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Type 1 proposals are solicited that provide for full implementation efforts at academic institutions. Type 2 proposals are solicited that support educational research projects on associate or baccalaureate degree attainment in STEM.

Title                             Investigator Awards in Health Policy Research
Program:                     This program supports educational and other nonprofit institutions where highly qualified individuals propose to undertake broad studies of America's most challenging policy issues in health and health care. Grants are awarded to institutions to support investigators from a variety of disciplines for innovative research projects that have national policy relevance. The program supports those researchers whose cross-cutting and innovative ideas promise to contribute meaningfully to improving health and health policy in America. The program welcomes applications in the health, social and behavioral sciences (such as anthropology, business, communications, demography, economics, engineering, ethics, genetics, health and social policy, health services research, history, journalism, law, medicine, nursing, political science, psychology, public health, science policy, social work, sociology) as well as other fields.

The program seeks a diverse mix of investigators to undertake studies that:
- explore underlying values, historical evolution and interplay among the social, economic and political forces that shape health, health care and health policy in the United States;
- apply new perspectives from a variety of disciplines to analyze the organization, delivery and financing of health care services, workforce issues and public health challenges;
- develop innovative ideas that hold promise for contributing to better policy-making;
- synthesize existing work in ways that expose its policy significance and advance the understanding of key issues; or
- contribute importantly to implementation of health reform.

Program:                     UP to 15 fellowships for dissertation research in independent countries in Latin America or the Caribbean (except for Cuba, Puerto Rico, or the Dutch, French and British territories) on topics related to grassroots development. Awards support four to 12 months of research.
