Support students pursuing doctoral research in cognitive psychology who need financial assistance to complete their studies.
This fund provides need-based awards to Psychology Department graduate students to cover the cost of tuition, fees, the high cost of living in Santa Cruz, basic needs, and other necessary expenses. By providing this assistance, the department is able to attract and retain world-class students who push forward the field of psychology in the spirit of UCSC professor Bruce Bridgeman.
This award honors Bruce Bridgeman, Ph.D., a professor of psychology and psychobiology, who passed suddenly in 2016. Bridgeman is remembered for his sharp intellect and curiosity, genuine sense of humor, and commitment to peace, social justice, and environmental advocacy. His research centered on spatial orientation by vision and perception/action interactions and consciousness’s functions and neural basis. He enjoyed teaching and taking an active mentorship role with both undergraduate and graduate students.
