Previous Winners of the Earthbound Farm Environmental Stewardship Award

In order to assist UC Santa Cruz in promoting its educational mission and support UCSC’s programs of research, instruction, and outreach in protecting and conserving the environment, Earthbound Farm gives $4000 annually for two awards, one new award and one renewal award. These awards are based on academic merit and active engagement in and commitment to protecting the environment through organic and sustainable agriculture. As long as the new recipient remains in good academic standing, enrolls at UCSC for the following year, and continues to study organic agriculture he/she is eligible for the renewal award.

  • Darryl Wong

    Darryl Wong

    Darryl Wong is the Farm Site and Research Lands Manager at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) at UC Santa Cruz.  He helps to manages the 30 acre research and education center, focusing mainly on faculty directed field experiments and ongoing educational programs.  Darryl is also concurrently enrolled in the UCSC Environmental Studies PhD. program where he is focusing on economic viability in diversified farming systems and related policy.  Before joining CASFS, Darryl co-owned and operated, Freewheelin Farm, a seven acre, organic operation located just north of Santa Cruz.  With his partners, he grew a variety of cool season vegetables and marketed directly to restaurants, grocery stores and through a CSA in both Santa Cruz and San Francisco.
