Department: Earth and Marine Sciences

What Award/ Scholarship did you receive? Keeley Coastal Scholars Award

What year are you? 3rd year

College: College Eight

Where do you call home? Los Angeles

With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out?

Santa Cruz stood out for me because of how different it is from where I grew up. I love how you essentially have to hike to get to some buildings on campus and how casually squirrels and deer hang out around campus, it’s something I’m still not used
to.

What is your field of focus?

Earth science with an ocean science concentration.

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz?

I will be applying to graduate school this fall, so upon graduation I hope to go straightinto a graduate school program.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here?

Winning this award will definitely be a memorable moment for me as a student here.

What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz?

I transferred to this campus last fall quarter so I still consider myself a relatively new student, however a piece of advice I would give new students is to take advantage of all of the free stuff the campus has to offer, like tutoring and workshops and
scholarships.

How will this scholarship impact your academic life /research?

This scholarship will allow me to do my own research in a lab, which I imagine will prepare greatly for graduate school.
