With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out?

The research opportunities available, the beautiful campus, and the friendly people.

What is your field of focus?

Obstetric violence in Mayan communities.

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz?

Next year I will be attending Columbia University to pursue a Masters degree in Human Rights.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here?

Being involved in my community, from teaching classes, to leading conferences, to facilitating retreats. Being present at UCSC has made several memories stand out.

What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz?

Take advantage of all the opportunities! It goes by fast.

How will this scholarship impact your academic life /research?

It connected me with staff members, it allowed me to travel to another country with the help of scholarships and funds, and it provided me a space to bring awareness to social injustices.
