College: Oakes College

Where do you call home? East Side San Jose, CA

What is your field of focus? I am most interested in using a sociological perspective to study educational issues of disparity and equity.

With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? The campus is beautifully situated in a forest! But also, I was most excited to learn from and study with faculty, staff and students who are committed to social justice.

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? After graduation, I will be attending a Masters in Teaching program in the Fall; I hope to be a high school history teacher!

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? One of the most important experiences of my undergrad is my internship at UCSC’s Educational Opportunity Programs Office.

What does this scholarship/award mean to you? This award is important for my continued academic journey. I will be applying the scholarship to my loan payments, reducing from of my financial anxieties and allowing me to concentrate on my goals!
