Where do you call home? My hometown is Brooklyn, New York.

With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? The really stellar faculty in the anthropology department. And I love the Pacific Ocean.

What is your field of focus? Cultural anthropology

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? I’d love to land a tenure-track job in anthropology that gives me the opportunity to continue to be a researcher even as I take on teaching responsibilities.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? My friends and I have a writing group and we held one of our routine paper workshops on the east meadow lawn. The conversation was generative and colloquial, the sun was shining, and the view opened out to the sea. It’s a mundane kind of thing, but it’s in such moments when I feel most grateful for the intellectual community and physical environment I've connected with in Santa Cruz.

What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz? Keep a broad perspective by making friends outside of your discipline/major.

How will this scholarship impact your academic life /research? This fellowship will help cover the cost of childcare so that I can focus on academic work.
