Where do you call home? Santa Cruz

With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? The location, being near the forests and the ocean, and not too far from my parents. Also, the community of students and faculty.

What is your field of focus? Environmental policy

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? I hope to participate in the Capital Fellows program with California’s state government after graduation. Afterwards, I will apply to volunteer for the Peace Corps and Americorps in addition to finding a job revolving around environmental policy or sustainable living. I am also considering various graduate schools.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? When I took an environmental policy course with Daniel Hirsch my freshman year. His course completely changed my life and helped me realize what I want my future to focus on. Seeing how involved Professor Hirsch was with environmental politics and learning from his experience further inspired me to advocate for environmental justice.

How will this scholarship impact your academic life/research? My academic life will be impacted because now I feel even more inspired to achieve my goals and make a change in the world. I feel incredibly honored to receive this award, especially because I feel supported in what I would like to accomplish and that people believe in me. This scholarship will help fund any future programs I participate in and will take me one step closer to fulfilling my aspirations.
