Previous Winners of the James Stuart Chanley Scholarship
The James Stuart Chanley Scholarship is based on financial need and merit. Preference is given to undergraduate students majoring in Environmental Studies, and the final determination in the selection of the recipient(s) is based upon the candidate(s) whose commitment to the environment most closely reflects the life of James Stuart Chanley.

Kira Akka-Seidel
Kira is double majoring in Environmental Studies and Legal Studies. She is from Larkspur, California, and was originally drawn to UC Santa Cruz because of its scenic environment. The Environmental Studies Department has taught Kira much about the world and herself, and never fails to offer informative and intriguing classes. Kira has a passion for environmental education and works as a tutor for the Environmental Policy and Economics class. When she graduates, she hopes to teach human ecology at the Island School, a semester abroad program, and study mangrove ecosystems at a marine research in the Bahamas.
