College: Merrill (undergraduate)

Department: Education Department

What Award/Scholarship did you receive? Richard and Cindy Morley Award

What year are you? I am a graduate student in the 1 year intensive master’s in education/credential program.

Where do you call home? I call both Santa Cruz and Watsonville my hometown’s. I was born and raised in Santa Cruz until the age on 12, that is when I moved to Watsonville.

With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? I did my undergraduate here and had a wonderful experience, which is why I decided to pursue my master’s at the same University. Also, UCSC has a wonderful master’s program.

What is your field of focus? Master’s in education

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? I hope that with all the knowledge I’ve gained, I will be able to be the best multiple subjects teacher that I can be. I plan to teach in the area, specifically in a K-5th elementary school in Watsonville. I want to give back to the community that supported me in achieving a higher education.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? Meeting all the great future educators that are passionate about teaching, just as much as I am.

How will this scholarship/award impact your academic life/research?: This award will greatly impact my academic life in a positive way. Since this master’s program is a 1 year intensive program, I am not able to work because my time is devoted to classes and student teaching. That is why, with the Richard and Cindy Morley Award, I will be able to focus solely on my academics, and finish the master’s in education program with more financial ease.
