With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? I was drawn to the interdisciplinary environmental studies program and the culture of the university and the city of Santa Cruz. The beautiful setting and abundance of outdoor recreation options didn’t hurt.

What is your field of focus? I am interested in working with businesses, cities, and universities to increase their sustainable and equitable use of resources.

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? After graduation, I am planning to work in resource conservation and later get a graduate degree.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? One of the most important experiences of my undergrad was attending the Sustainability Interorganizational Retreat.

What does this scholarship/award mean to you? This award will help me pay down my student loans. I feel very grateful to be recognized for my efforts in the environmental studies department in honor of James Stuart Chanley.
