With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? UC Santa Cruz stood out to me because of the beautiful campus and how close it is to the Bay Area peninsula
What is your field of focus? I am most interested in studying econometrics and its applications.
What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? After graduation I hope to continue my education by getting a master’s degree in applied or quantitative economics and ultimately become a data scientist.
What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? My most memorable and impactful moment as a student would be when I was in Professor Samaniego’s Intro to Econometrics course and realizing that this was the field that I wanted to go into for my career and graduate studies.
What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz? Take advantage of all of the resources the university has to offer. Get to know your professors and get involved in campus affairs, whether that be through clubs or research. Spending time in nature is really important too! There are so many beautiful beaches and state parks nearby, not to mention all of the hiking trails on campus.
How will this scholarship impact your academic life/research? This award means so much to me because it is validation for all the hard work that I have put into my studies.
