With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? Santa Cruz stood out to me because of the research influence and beautiful campus. I wanted to go to a big school, but still feel like I could make a difference. Once I learned about UC Santa Cruz’s global research influence and ample opportunities, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
What is your field of focus? Anthropology
What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? I am not sure what I will do after I graduate, but I know I will always be curious and looking for opportunities to learn and research. I hope to travel and work on solutions for planetary health.
What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? The most memorable moment happened when I was selected to serve as the Planetary Health Ambassador for the University of California Global Health Institute. That position allows me to conduct research with faculty UC wide and plan campus events related to planetary health.
What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz? My biggest piece of advice is to take advantage of all the opportunities Santa Cruz offers. There are constant scholarships, awards, grants, and research opportunities waiting for students if you just check your email, apply, and ask your professor for research opportunities!
How will this scholarship impact your academic life /research? This scholarship will provide for the travel expenses of going to Long Beach. There I will interview kickboxing champions and gain valuable insight to the biography I am working on. Additionally, this trip will allow me to (hopefully) meet with the professor I have been working with for the first time face-to-face, since he lives in the same area as the kickboxing gym I am conducting interviews at.
