With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? The faculty quality, the welcoming approach from everybody in the department.

What is your field of focus? International Finance

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? I will be back to Brazil to work for the Central Bank. I hope to be able to contribute to the research department and help the design of monetary policies.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? As a graduate student, a memorable moment for me was when I have advanced to candidacy. I could expose my research project and it was very gratifying to get the positive feedbacks from my research committee.

What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz? Be curious and passionate about learning! It is a long-run process, so it helps a lot to enjoy the process and celebrate all small improvements in your research and teaching experience/skills.

How will this scholarship impact your academic life/research? The MMK award is a great motivation for my continuous improvement in research and teaching. I am really honored about it.
