With all of the choices for college, what made UC Santa Cruz stand out? The fresh ocean air, the trees, and the nice people reminded me so much of home that I couldn’t resist coming here. I’m so glad I did.

What is your field of focus? Within my major of sociology and my minor of legal studies, I have primarily studied homelessness and poverty.

What do you hope to do once you graduate from UC Santa Cruz? After taking some time to collect myself and solidify my passions, I plan on attending graduate school.

What is one memorable moment that stands out for you as a student here? Standing with a group of people at the picket line for the COLA protests, I felt a sense of solidarity and motivation for a larger goal that I have never felt before.

What is your one piece of advice for incoming students about life at UC Santa Cruz? Enjoy every moment of it, because it’s gone too quickly.

How will this scholarship impact your academic life /research? This scholarship will make the transition from student to full time worker much less stressful. It also has given me a material sense of accomplishment, and the feeling that the hundreds of hours I put into my thesis was worth it.
