Climate Science & Policy Conference 2018

The Divisions of Arts, Physical & Biological Sciences and Social Sciences hosted the fifth annual Climate Science and Policy Conference on March 7, 2018. The event featured top climate scientists and policy experts from across the country in a series of talks and panel discussions.

The overarching theme was "Humans and Wild Ecosystems in a Hot World.Presentations focused on human-accelerated global warming and evolution, ecology and climate change.

The event featured presentations by Scott Wing, a biologist and curator of fossil plants at the Smithsonian National Museum of History, and Newton Harrison, leader of the Center for the Study of the Force Majeure and co-creator of the Harrison Studios. Katharyne Kitchell, UCSC Dean of Social Sciences, gave the opening address, Paul Koch, UCSC Dean of Physical and Biological Sciences served as the event's Moderator, and Susan Solt, UCSC Dean of Arts, gave the closing remarks.
